Working with neighborhood stakeholders, the Rock Island Planning and Redevelopment Division completed the Douglas Park plan in 1994. With the input of 116 citizens over five public meetings, planners drafted this document with goals associated with increasing small businesses, eliminating crime spots, developing a positive identity, increasing home ownership, and bridging better access to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center. Youth and vandalism were a heavy focus, along with housing repair. This densely populated neighborhood is predominantly contains single-family homes, with Century Woods located in the southwest corner.
