Message from Fire Chief

Jeff Yerkey Message from the Fire Chief
As both a citizen and employee in our great City of Rock Island, it is an honor and a privilege to serve as your Fire Chief.

Our mission is to protect lives and property in the community from the adverse effects of fire, medical, environmental, and other emergencies, both natural and man-made. We have an extremely dedicated and professional workforce of 59 members who strive to accomplish that mission each and every day through the delivery of services and programs. The Fire Department operates out of 4 fire stations that are strategically placed throughout the City to best serve our citizens, as well as a Rescue Boat that can respond from Sunset Marina to emergencies on our local waterways. In 2015, the department received an Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification rating of 3.

The Fire Department also participates in a structured mutual aid program with our neighboring departments to provide additional resources for large incidents in an organized and efficient manner. This partnership also allows us to pool our resources in order to mitigate special operations incidents by deploying a Technical Rescue Team, a Hazardous Materials Team, or a Fire Investigation Team.

I look forward to leading a department that will remain committed to providing the highest level of services in the most professional, efficient, and cost-effective manner possible.
