School Resource Officer


The position of School Resource Officer has allowed the Rock Island Police Department to enhance the relationship between the youth and the police as well as provide for a closer working relationship with the schools in the community.

Student Interaction


The current School Resource Officer, Doug Williams, typically starts each day at his office where he gathers his needed teaching supplies and then travels to one of the twelve schools to which he is assigned. His normal day consists of teaching students kindergarten through eighth grade for four to five hours as well as conducting interventions and interacting with students during their lunch period or in the hallways.

  • The “911” System
  • Bicycle Safety
  • Drug Awareness
  • Forensic Science
  • Internet Safety
  • Just saying “No”
