Who selects the Citizens of the Year?
The Citizen of the Year Committee selects the winners each year. The committee is composed of the winners from the previous year, along with two Council representatives and a representative from the Labor Day Parade Committee. The committee reviews all of the nominations and interviews each nominee prior to choosing the winners.

What are Citizen of the Year Awards?
Each year, people in the community have an opportunity to submit a nomination for their peers who have contributed to the good of our community. There are seven categories available for nomination, Business, Professional, Organization, Education, Individual, City Employee, and Youth. An eighth category, Honorary Citizen is available for nomination for someone that does not live in Rock Island, but has contributed to our community.

Is there a standard nomination form and who do I submit a nomination to for Citizen of the Year?
Each spring, nomination forms are posted on this website for the current year of the awards with a deadline. Nomination forms are also available in the City Clerk's office. You may submit your nominations by fax, email, or mail to the City Clerk at City Hall, 1528 Third Avenue, Rock Island, IL 61201.

Has the City of Rock Island received environmental awards?
Yes, in 2008, the City was honored with the Environmental Hero Award for the City's forward-looking green initiatives. Also in 2008, the City received the Radish Award for initiatives that represent environmental stewardship and leadership. Please visit the link below to view all awards.
