NEIGHBORHOOD PARTNERS

Duties
Neighborhood Partners is a city-initiated and coordinated partnership that builds stronger working relationships among neighborhoods, city government, service agencies, schools, churches and businesses. The organization assembles the talents of volunteer citizens and city and agency staff people to improve quality of life and pride in Rock Island through education, resident self-sufficiency and enhanced, user-friendly municipal services.

Neighborhood Partners created a task force system to deal with issues in a grassroots manner. Task forces are made up of Neighborhood Partners representatives and other concerned citizens. Current task forces are: Green Education, Knowledge Though Neighbors, Neighborhood Leadership, Problem Properties and School-Community.

Membership is granted to organizations, plus one-third of the seats are reserved for city at-large delegates. Each constituent organization is asked to appoint two delegates, who must be residents of Rock Island. Upon recommendation by Neighborhood Partners, the Mayor and City Council may grant membership to any Rock Island-based organization that seeks to achieve neighborhood-based community improvement, and either functions as an independent organization with regular meetings, or operates as a public, governmental entity which seeks to strengthen and enhance Rock Island’s neighborhoods. There are no terms for constituent organizations, just their delegates.

Associate members are those organizations which do not meet the membership criteria, but maintain an active interest in strengthening and enhancing Rock Island’s neighborhoods. Associate members are most often fledgling neighborhood groups.

Membership issues are considered and resolved at the Annual Membership Meeting each February.
