FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - EMPLOYMENT
- Who will see my application if I use the online application process?
All information is maintained on a secure web server. Only authorized city employees will have access. The City of Rock Island does not share its database with other cities or entities.
- What information will I be asked to provide?
You will be asked to provide information such as name, address, phone number, etc. You will also be asked to provide details regarding your education, employment history, and references. An active email account is required.
- What if I do not have a computer or access to the web?
Accessible computers to set up email accounts are available for at the Rock Island Public Library. They include the historic Main Library downtown, the 30/31 Branch Library at 3059 30th Street and the Southwest Branch at 9010 Ridgewood Road. Locations and hours can be found at http://www.rockislandlibrary.org. You can also visit the Martin Luther King Center workforce center and the IDES Employment Services for additional assistance. Free email accounts can be set up through AOL, Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo. If you already have an email account, internet access to employment opportunities will be located at City Hall 1528 Third Avenue, Rock Island, Illinois 61201 outside the Administrative Services Department on the first floor. Please note that at the Administrative Services Department location you will not be able to access any site other than the city’s employment page.
- How do I set up a user account to access the online application process?
Use the Neogov employment link to create your user account and password. Keep a record of your username and password when you set up your account. You will need it to apply for other positions or to check the status of your application. Each applicant must have their own account and only one account can be created per each email address.
- How do I create my application and how long will it take?
Allow approximately 30-45 minutes to complete your application. It is recommended that you complete each section of the application in detail. Each time you input information, you will need to click on the Save & View Application button. If the system is inactive over 30 minutes, it will automatically log you off and will only keep information from the last time you saved your information
- Can I submit a resume?
You may either attach or cut and paste a resume into your application. Submitting a resume does not substitute for the completion of the application. Failure to complete an application and submit only a resume may cause your application to be rejected.
- How can I verify that my application has been received?
If you submitted electronically, you will receive an email confirmation after submission. All application materials (including resumes and supplemental documentation) must be received by the posted close time and date. Late application materials will not be considered.
- How do I check the status of my application?
You may check the status of your application at any time by logging in using your username and password, and selecting Application Status.
- If I missed the deadline can I still apply?
No. As with any position, once a closing date has passed, no application will be accepted or considered. Please continue to visit www.rigov.org and apply for new jobs as they become available.
- What if I am interested in a position that is not currently on the City job list?
If you would like to receive notification when a job you are interested in becomes available, click the Job Notification Request.
- Do I have to submit a separate application for each open job?
Yes. However, once you create a user account you may build an application and submit that application for multiple jobs. Review and update your application as necessary. Once your account is created, applying for other positions is quick and easy.
- What benefits does the City of Rock Island offer?
Please see the Benefits page posted by the City of Rock Island’s Administrative Services Department.
