If there are police staff openings, applications will be taken by the Personnel Department.

Currently all applications are accepted on line only. We are no longer accepting any paper applications. To see if the Police Department is currently testing click on Employment found above this page on the menu bar under the photos. This will take you to the Employment page. Click on City Job Search and Online Application and scroll to the bottom for current job openings. If the Police Department is testing you will find the Police Officer posting. Simply click on the posting and then click apply.

After the closing date, a physical agility test is conducted by the Police Department and any applicant who passes this test is allowed to participate in the written exam. Applicants who successfully complete both tests are interviewed by the Police and Fire Commission, and applicants are placed on an eligibility list. An applicant's position on the eligibility list is dependent on such factors as physical/written test scores, interview ranking, reference and background checks, and military service.

Hiring is dependent upon the applicant initially passing a psychological exam followed by a physical and drug/alcohol screening. Newly hired officers receive paid training at the police academy for approximately 12 weeks. Once the training is complete, the officers will be assigned to a full-time watch with a field training officer in the police department and serve a one year probationary period.
