50/50 TREE PROGRAM
This program is offered each year and continues as long as sufficient funds are available. The program is administered by the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department.
This program allows property owners to pay just 50% of the cost to have a new tree planted in the public right-of-way. Engineering Division staff will first need to determine if the boulevard areas will accommodate the trees requested for participation in this program. Trees will be planted in the fall or spring, depending upon the species requested. The tree program currently has seven species to choose from, but additional species can be submitted for approval. The seven approved species are sugar maple, pin oak, red oak, ginkgo, honey locust, columnare maple, and little leaf linden. The City will contract to plant the tree, place mulch, and maintain the tree until it has been determined that the tree is effectively established.
To participate in the 50/50 Tree Program, property owners must call the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department at 732-2200. Job parameters and cost will be determined and then a bill will be sent to the property owner to cover 50% of the cost. When the City has received payment from the property owner, this work will be scheduled with the private contractor hired by the City. Depending upon citizen enrollment and timeliness in applying for this program, every attempt will be made to accomplish all work submitted for each year's list.
