1. What happens if I rent a unit without a rental license to someone?

Obtaining a rental license is the responsibility of the property owner. Unlicensed rental property will result in legal action resulting in a maximum $500 per day penalty through the Administrative Hearing process also known as MUNICES.

2. Who do I call to find out if a property has a rental license?

3. Does an owner need a property agent?

Not if the owner resides in the City of Rock Island or within a reasonable distance so they may be able to maintain the propery. Property owners who do not reside within a reasonable distance and are unable to maintain the property or respond to emergencies on the property are strongly advised to have a local agent. The local agent is designated by the owner and provides a contact person for the property, and the agent authorization must be on file in the Inspection Division.
