Escape rooms are a fun way to try creative problem solving with family and friends. Ages 12 and up can sign up now to take on the Library’s Haunted Escape Room game on Tuesday, October 22. Participants will take on the role of a ghost hunter, and attempt to unlock the mystery of the haunted library in just 30 minutes.  Not all ghosts are friendly, so there may be obstacles to your escape!

The free event is offered from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street. Registration is required. To sign up, visit the library events calendar online or call 309-732-READ. Registration for this event closes October 21. The Escape Room is open to preteens and adults.

On Tuesday, October 29, local authors Michael McCarty and Mark McLaughlin will share what they’ve learned about Ghosts of the Quad Cities. Their book of the same name was just released by Arcadia Publishing & The History Press. The authors will share a few spine-tingling tales they’ve uncovered of haunted Quad Cities lore, from spectral Confederate POWS at Arsenal Island to the Phantom Washwoman of Bettendorf’s Central Avenue. Their talk takes place from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, also at the Downtown Library. All ages are welcome, and copies of the book will be available.

For more free events at the library, visit the library website, call 309-732-READ, follow the Rock Island Library on social media, and sign up for personalized calendar updates via Burbio.
