It's no coincidence that Rock Island Public Library is hosting its Community Comforts Drive in Febuary, the month of love. Community donations of non-food household and personal care items will benefit two Rock Island organizations.
Supporting others in our community is love in action, so it’s no coincidence that the Rock Island Public Library has chosen the “month of love to host its Community Comforts Drive. The Library is taking donations of household supplies and personal care items in February for donation to two Rock Island organizations.
Access to non-food personal care, cleaning supplies, hygiene items, and basic household supplies isn’t always easy or affordable for some community residents. To help, the library has partnered with the Heart of Hope Outreach Center and the Rocky Resource Room at Rock Island High School to take donations of these necessary items.
Bright pink donation boxes are available until March 1 at the Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street, the Rock Island Southwest Library, 9010 Ridgewood Road, and the Watts-Midtown Branch, 2715 30th Street.
Examples of items for the library drive include shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, soaps, toilet paper, toothpaste, new socks, laundry detergent, diapers, and more. “Basically, it’s anything you’d buy for your own home,” says Karrah Kuykendall, RIPL Reference & Adult Services director. “We collected nearly 500 items last year, and that generosity brought a little comfort to people struggling with basic needs. We’re always impressed by our community’s caring and capacity to help others.”
Heart of Hope Ministries operates a community outreach office at 1740 9th Avenue, Rock Island, that offers a drop-in food pantry and weekly homebound delivery option.
