Level Up Your Supply of Future Reading with the Summer Book Sale! True book lovers know that keeping an ample supply of books around is always a good idea. Fortunately, the Rock Island Public Library upcoming summer book sale offers an easy way to stock up.
The library’s quarterly “pay what you want” book sale takes place from 10 am to 1 pm on both Friday July 25 and Saturday, July 26 at the Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street, Rock Island. Buyers can set their own price on anything that’s not specially marked, making it possible to buy multiple boxes of books at a bargain.
The wide variety of items includes a donated nonfiction collection of books about the Civil War, general fiction and non-fiction for all ages, books for children and teens, mystery, thrillers, horror, romance, large print, inspirational novels, graphic novels, science-fiction, cookbooks, and much more. Be sure to check the $1 special pricing table for vintage books and other one-of-a-kind items. Cash, check, and credit/debit payments are all accepted.
Rock Island Public Library Foundation PALS (People Advocating for Library Services) volunteers run the sale for the library. Information about PALS membership is available at the sale, at the Volunteer page on the library website, or by contacting the Library Foundation at riplfoundation@gmail.com. The final book sale for 2025 is set for October 24 and 25, also at the Downtown Library.
While you’re at the library, make sure you’re registered for the all ages Level Up at Your Library Summer Reading Challenge – or claim your prizes if you’re already participating! The reading contest offers rewards for reading by minutes and completing library activities. Registration, halfway, and finishing prizes are available at all age levels. To sign up and participate, use the library’s Beanstack app/website, or ask for a paper reading log at any Rock Island Library.
