The Rock Island Public Library is offering a unique arts and craft swap Saturday that matches up those looking to clear out still-usable arts and crafts supplies they own with those who want them.

Artists, crafters, and aspiring creatives alike can all take advantage of the library’s first "Studio Exchange" community art supply swap on Saturday, October 18 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street.

Attendees may bring new or gently-used, but still usable, arts and crafts supplies to the event to either donate outright or swap for something new. Don’t have supplies to swap? No problem! Anyone is welcome to drop by and pick out supplies for personal use, in order to try a new hobby or artistic medium on for size. Donation is not required to pick out free materials.

For those who can’t attend the event but have materials, donation boxes are available at all Rock Island Public Library locations through Friday. Please observe the following guidelines when donating:

  • Art and craft supplies only.
  • Fit for re-use – new or gently used items only, please.
  • Small to medium items only – items should fit into a normal -size car.

“When in doubt about whether to donate something, we suggest following the ‘bestie rule,’ said event organizer Anna Campbell, Rock Island Public Library Adult Services department. “Is it something you’d give to a good friend?”

The event is free and open to all adults. Rock Island residency or library card not required.

For additional information, please visit the Rock Island Public Library website or call 309-732-READ.
