Find out whether you have unclaimed property, and conveniently shred records to protect your privacy, with free Money Smart Week events at Rock Island Library.
The Rock Island Public Library will offer two free "Money Smart" events to help people locate unclaimed assets and protect their identities against theft. Rock Island Library and other Money Smart Week partners will offer financial literacy events during Money Smart Week Quad Cities, April 22 -29, 2017.
Rock Island Library events include:
iCash, 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm, Tuesday, April 25, Rock Island Main Library. Learn if you have unclaimed property or funds with a search conducted by an Illinois State Treasurer's Office representative. The State Treasurer is holding 2.5 billion dollars in unclaimed funds for Illinoisans. The State holds these lost funds until they are claimed by either the original owner or their heirs. Property is returned at no cost with the proper identification. Stop by and see if the State is holding funds or property for you. Part of our Money Smart Week Quad Cities programming.
Money Smart Week Community Shred Day: 10:00 am to noon, Wednesday, April 26, Rock Island Main Library parking lot. Participants may bring three boxes (approximately 100 pounds) of personal papers for confidential shredding and disposal. A truck from The Shredder, of Des Moines, will be parked in the library parking lot for drive through drop off of your materials. Save time as you protect your identity. Documents will be shredded on site, but you will not be able to watch your specific documents be shredded. The event is provided at no charge to participants, and was made possible through funding from the Rock Island Public Library Foundation.
The Rock Island Library event is the first of three library shred days on April 26. Davenport Library Eastern Avenue Branch will offer a free shred day from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, and the Bettendorf Public Library from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. All of the April 26 events are no charge and are with The Shredder.
A Moline Public Library Shred Day, with services provided by Shred-It, will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, April 29, at the Moline Library. Participants are limited to two boxes. For more details, contact the individual libraries.
The events are part of Money Smart Week Quad Cities, April 22-29, 2017. Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign created by The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in 2002. A wide variety of organizations, including businesses, financial institutions and libraries, partner annually to stress the importance of financial literacy, inform consumers where they can get more information, and offer free workshops and events.
