The
City of Rock Island is preparing for the rising Mississippi River.
City staff
is implementing the flood strategy plan as the river rises which includes
installing pumps and closing gatewells.
At this time, there are several water
pump discharge hoses that are placed across the Rock Island portion of the bike
path. The hose locations are
marked. Please use caution when crossing
over the hoses. The bike path is also
closed at the Moline border.
18th
Avenue at Potter’s Lake will close once the river level hits 16 feet.
The
Sunset Marina fuel dock will remain open to sell fuel. However, pumpout service will be discontinued
at 4:00 PM Sunday. The dock water and
power will remain on. Temporary walkways
for pedestrian access to the 100 and 200 docks have been installed.
Rock Island follows the National Incident
Management System procedures whenever faced with major weather challenges. The City’s Incident Command Team meets weekly
and responds as needed to flooding.
