Take a walk down memory lane with two free local history events at the Rock Island Public Library in early January.

David Sebben, creator of the popular Facebook site Retro Quad Cities, will present pictures and stories submitted to the page. If you're not on Facebook or missed a story, the presentation serves as an introduction to some of the local lore that's appeared there. A Journey through History with Retro Quad Cities is Monday, January 8, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street. The event is free and open to the public.

Then on Wednesday, January 10, the library's "Over There" World War I history series continues with a presentation on the Rock Island Arsenal in WWI. The 6:00 pm presentation is at the Rock Island Downtown Library. Army Sustainment Command historian Jason Morin will look at how the Arsenal supported and was affected by the war effort. The program is free, and is part of an every-other-month series tracing United States involvement in the war 100 years ago. The next program in the series is March 14.
