Phase 4B work is expected to begin on Friday, September 28, 2018, and is anticipated to last for 5 to 7 working days, weather permitting.  During this phase, the center portion of the intersection of 18th Avenue and 24th Street will be closed.  The road closure is required for workers to remove, place, and cure street patches.

Two-way traffic along 18th Avenue will be maintained during this work.  However while this work is being done, it will not be possible for motorist to make left-turns at this intersection.  Left turning vehicles will be detoured using the following routes (see attached diagram):

a.    Eastbound traffic turning left (north) from 18th Avenue onto 24th Street will be detoured east on 18th Avenue, north on 25th Street and then west on 16th Avenue to 24th Street.

b.    Southbound traffic turning left (east) from 24th Street onto 18th Avenue will be detoured east on 16th Avenue, south on 25th Street to 18th Avenue.

c.    Northbound traffic turning left (west) from 24th Street onto 18th Avenue will be detoured west on 25th Avenue, north on 17th Street to 18th Avenue.

d.    Westbound traffic turning left (south) from 18th Avenue onto 24th Street will be detoured west on 18th Avenue, south on 17th Street and then east on 25th Avenue to 24th Street.

To alleviate work zone congestion, it is recommended to access the Center for Math & Science School via 16th Avenue from 25th Street.

General:

The City’s major north-south arterial streets: 17th Street, 30th Street and 38th Street will remain open and free of construction activities during this project.

Pedestrian traffic will be maintained at all times during construction.

Travel delays can be expected to occur during the construction activity along the 18th Avenue corridor.  Please follow all posted construction signs for detour directions as needed, and watch for trucks entering and leaving the construction zones.

The City of Rock Island is sorry for any inconvenience due to this road work and appreciates the patience and consideration of the traveling public
