On Sunday, December 16th, 2018 at approx. 5:21 a.m. the Rock Island Police Department responded to 2200 block of 17th Street in reference to a possible burglary in progress with an injured subject.
Responding officers located a
victim on the front lawn of the residence who had sustained an apparent stab
wound to his chest. The victim was identified as Antonio A. Ortiz Jr. of Rock
Island, 30 years of age. Mr. Ortiz died from his injuries.
Jose L. Yanez, who was on scene, was taken into custody on domestic battery charges stemming from an earlier incident. On December 17th, 2018, 2nd Degree Murder charges were obtained for Jose. L. Yanez, with bond being set at $500,000.00.
