On Wednesday April 17, 2019 at 1950 hours, the Rock Island Police Department responded to the area of 9th Street and 26th Avenue for a reported vehicle accident.
Officers arriving on scene located one of the involved vehicles, which had been abandoned. Investigation revealed that the vehicle had been shot at prior to the crash and the driver had fled the area on foot.
At 2115 hours, the police department was notified that the driver of the victim vehicle was at Genesis East, receiving treatment for injuries as a result of the crash. The victim was eventually treated and released.
Zaccheus N. Hayes (12/09/98) was developed as the suspect. Hayes had reportedly rammed the victim vehicle several times before firing a shot into the vehicle. At approximately 2240 hours officers located Hayes driving in the area of 17th St. 20 ½ Av. Officers attempted to stop Hayes, who subsequently fled and was pursued into Davenport where he eventually was taken into custody.
Hayes was charged with the following:
Ct. 1 - 2 counts of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding
Ct. 2 - 1 count of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm
Bond has been set at $150,000, 10% applies. Hayes is currently in custody at the Scott County Jail awaiting extradition on the Illinois charges.
