[ARCHIVED] Blast Off for Adventure with Ready Jet Go!

To help the Rock Island Library's Universe of Stories summer programming and reading challenges blast off right, WQPT Quad Cities PBS will bring READY JET GO storytimes to Rock Island Libraries on June 4, 7, and 12.

The special storytimes explore the moon with the help of Ready Jet Go! from PBS Kids. Participants will listen to a story, complete an activity, and learn about the fun and educational uses of the show, which is aimed at ages 3 to 8. The WQPT-TV storytimes are offered at 10:30 am on Tuesday, June 4 at the Rock Island 30/31 Library, 3059 30th Street; Friday, June 7 at the Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street, and Wednesday, June 12 at the Rock Island Southwest Library, 9010 Ridgewood Road.

Ready Jet Go! features alien visitor Jet Propulsion and his family from the fictional planet Bortron, and is produced in cooperation NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The storytimes are free and open to the public. No registration is required.

Rock Island Library's Universe of Stories programming and reading challenges launch June 1 at all Rock Island Libraries and online. The Rock Island Library's RockTown Summer Reading Challenges for all ages encourages children, teens, and adults to read for fun, learning and prizes June 1 to July 31. Mission goals by age include: 

  • Children, preschool to sixth grades: Tracking 24 books or 6 hours of reading time. with prize levels every 8 books or 2 hours. Reading aloud to a child counts!
  • Teens, ages 12 to 18: Reading up to 1,000, with prize levels every 250 minutes;
  • Adults, 19 and up: Reading up to seven books over the summer, with prizes at 4 and 7 books.

Registration in the reading challenge is not required to attend library events. To sign up visit any Rock Island Library, or participate online via Beanstack.
