We are now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.

The City of Rock Island, Illinois, population 39,684, is located on the Mississippi River, in a greater metropolitanarea with a population of over 300,000. Rock Island Police department has 81 sworn officers on the department.

POSITION TITLE: Police Officer

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Police

STARTING SALARY: $58,383.00

HOURS OF WORK: Full Time – variable hours

Minimum Requirements: Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to four (4) years of high school plus ability to successfully pass a physical agility test, written and oral examination, background security investigation, drug testing, psychological exam and medical examination. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and be 21 years of age upon appointment. Persons over 34 years of age are not eligible to apply as stated in 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6. Selected candidate must meet residency requirement, which includes a thirty-mile radius on the Illinois side of Rock Island and fall within a 60 minute commute time within 6 months after completing one (1) year probation period. Police Officer applications are available and accepted only online at www.rigov.org through March 27, 2020 at 5pm. EOE

Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 health crisis, the Rock Island Police Department’s recruit physical agility test and written exam are postponed until further notice.  All police applications that are received by March 27th, 2020 by 5PM will be contacted once the process is able to resume.
