Spring intersession break for Rock Island/Milan Schools is coming up March 9. If you’re a parent, grandparent or other caregiver looking for some fun ways to keep the kids occupied, the Rock Island Public Library has some free activities for you!

Looking for Fun Things to Do During Rock Island School Break? Spend Some Time at Your Rock Island Public Library! 

Spring intersession break for Rock Island/Milan Schools is coming up March 9. If you’re a parent, grandparent or other caregiver looking for some fun ways to keep the kids occupied, the Rock Island Public Library has some free activities for you!

The Rock Island Public Library has planned a mix of free scheduled and drop-in activities for school-age children during the two-week period. 

Scheduled activities include:

  • Roblox Gaming for ages 12 to 18: Tuesday, March 10, at the Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street. The Library’s Community Room will be open from 3:30 to 5:00 pm for 90 minutes of free Roblox gaming. The online “Imagination Platform” allows users to develop or play millions of 3D online games. Participants can use their own Roblox account or create a new one to enjoy Roblox on library laptops. 
  • A “Bead Bash” Craft for ages 7 and up. This free event is offered on Wednesday, March 11 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at the Rock Island Library Downtown Children’s Room; and on Tuesday, March 17, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the Rock Island Southwest Library Community Room, 9010 RidgewoodParticipants can make their own creations out of fusible and pony beads with prepackaged projects. Projects are the same at each event. No registration is required.
  • Petite (and taller) Picassos: March 10 at Downtown Library and March 18 at Southwest Library. Normally aimed at preschoolers, the intersession version of Petite Picassos also includes art projects for older siblings who may be coming along during school break.  Each event features multiple art projects for the family and a story from 10:30 to 11:30 am. No registration is required.
  • Family Bingo Night: Thursday, March 19, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at the Rock Island Downtown Library Community Room. Registration is required for this fun family game of Bingo. Participants of all ages will play for candy prizes. Enrollment is limited, so sign up today at the library’s online calendar or call 309-732-7360.

Drop-in activities during the two-week school break allow busy families to take advantage of library activities on their schedule. Events include:

  • Drop-In Lego™ Blocks: Monday, March 9 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Rock Island Downtown Library, in Children’s Room. Drop in during the day to build things with Lego brand blocks. The library will display completed projects.
  • Children’s Craft “Buffet:” Thursday, March 12 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Downtown Library Children’s Room. Participants will create their own art with the library’s wide selection of craft supplies. Show us how creative you can be!
  • Friday the 13th Scavenger Hunt:  Friday, March 13 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Rock Island Downtown Library Children’s Room. Celebrate Friday the 13th with a fun-filled and superstitious scavenger hunt through the Children’s Room. 
  • Ready, Set, Kindergarten: Thursday, March 12 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, Downtown Library, Children’s Room. Help your child get ready for their first day of school with self-paced activities that help teach the 12 skills they need to know. 
  • Build and Play: Monday, March 16 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Downtown Library Children’s Room. Participants will play and build with LEGO brand blocks, Lincoln Logs, DUPLOs, and other engineering toys.  Great for preschoolers five and under and school age kids in grades K-6.

All of the above events are free and do not require registration. Drop in for some fun during the Rock Island/Milan school break!
