Secure Shredding Event at Rock Island Public Library_sponsored by Gas & Electric Credit Union

If you’ve been spending some of that social distancing downtime going through files at home, the Rock Island Public Library offers a one-time event on Sept. 24 to safely rid yourself of those excess personal papers.

Rock Island Public Library Community Shred Day Offers a Secure Way to Destroy Confidential Papers

The Rock Island Public Library annual Community Shred Day will be offered on Thursday, September 24 from 9:30 to 11:30 am in the Rock Island Downtown Library parking lot. The event offers free, drive-through drop-off of up to three boxes of paperwork for secure shredding by Shred-It, and is sponsored by a donation from GECU Credit Union.

The following procedures apply to this event:

  • To take part in the drive-up, drop-off event, participants should enter via the library alley from 20th Street, turn into the library lot, and stay in your car. A library staff member will collect boxes when the vehicle reaches the shred truck. After dropping off your papers, please exit onto the 4th Avenue one-way, turning left.
  • To limit contact and ensure social distancing, the library asks that participants use a disposable, non-returnable container when possible and to place materials in either a trunk, back seat, or truck bed. Avoid taping or tying containers if you can.
  • Material is bulk shredded by full bin. Due to traffic and volume, it is not possible to individually shred each person’s material.
  • Shred-It is NAID Certified for mobile document destruction. All material will be destroyed fully by the close of the event.

The Shred Day is offered at no charge and is open to the public. It offers safe, secure destruction of confidential papers by a certified Shred-It destruction agent. Non-confidential paper materials, such as newspapers and magazines, slow the line and should not be included in secure shredding. These may be disposed of in regular recycling.
