The City of Rock Island has been awarded an African American Civil Rights grant provided by the Historic Preservation Fund and the National Park Service in the amount of $33,500.00. The funding is being passed through the City of Rock Island to Pearson Consulting, and QC PastPort, an initiative of Media Link, Inc., to complete the “20th Century African American Historic Research Project.”
The purpose of the project is to highlight the African American Experience in Rock Island and the Quad Cities. Grant funds will support the following activities: survey, research, and documentation of sites associated with 20th Century African American Civil Rights history and produce educational narratives about the identified sites.
