[ARCHIVED] Update Rock Island - December 12, 2022

Update Rock Island is a segment at city council meetings given by Mayor Mike Thoms focusing on news in Rock Island. The video segment from the meeting is available on YouTube.

Take part in festive fun by lighting up your yards and homes in celebration of the holidays

The 37th Annual Holiday Lighting Contest, sponsored by the City’s Beautification Commission, is intended to recognize Rock Island residents

and businesses who craft seasonal displays that are enjoyed by many people

throughout the holidays.

To nominate a residential or commercial light display, contact City Hall. Judging will take place December 19th, when all displays should be illuminated by 5:30 p.m. Certificates will be awarded by myself, Mayor Thoms, for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in both the residential and commercial categories during a January city council meeting.

Step back in time for Christmas

Holiday tours are open to the public at the Hauberg Estate, 1300 24th St. through December 22. The 20-room, two-story mansion, built in 1909, is beautifully decorated for Christmas with 100 poinsettias, dozens of wreaths and Christmas trees.

Commit to fitness and activity in the new year

Registration for winter and spring activities is now open at the Rock Island Fitness and Activity Center. Stay busy and active this winter with cycling classes, yoga, water fitness, Zumba and ballet. Learn new skills such as basket weaving, CPR, or take a wine tasting class. New members receive 50% off their first month of membership.
