[ARCHIVED] Find Your Voice with Fun & Learning for Kids in early June!

Families looking for fun ways to express their creativity, develop new interests and learn together will find plenty of opportunities over the next two weeks with Rock Island Public Library’s Find Your Voice summer reading and event programming.

Free Creativity, Fun, & Learning at your Library this June! Families looking for fun ways to express their creativity, develop new interests and learn together will find plenty of opportunities over the next two weeks with Rock Island Public Library’s Find Your Voice summer reading and event programming.

Rock Island Public Library Find Your Voice All Ages Summer Reading Challenge runs June 1 through July 31 at all RIPL locations. Participants may sign up and participate at any time during the challenge period via the library’s Beanstack reading website or app, or in-person at library locations. With the challenge, readers of all ages earn rewards and extra motivation to meet reading and activity goals. Participants receive a color-changing ruler for signing up, and additional prizes when they log any combination of 10 reading minute or activity badges. Upcoming events for children and families include: 

Weekly summer craft activity, Downtown: New drop-in craft for kids of any age each week during regular Downtown Library hours, 10am to 6pm M-F, 10 am to 2pm Saturday.

WQPT Summer of Possibilities Tour: June 6, 10:30 am at RIPL Watts-Midtown Branch; June 7 at 11am at the RIPL Southwest Branch. Special WQPT activities at regular weekly storytimes. Great learning fun for ages 5 and under.

Summer Family Interactive Movie, Monday, June 12, from 3pm to 5 pm, Downtown Library. Registration is required for this special movie showing, which includes song lyrics and a pack of props for playing along with the movie. Adults bringing multiple children should register each child attending. The featured showing is a 2016 Disney movie about a young girl’s search for empowerment, self-discovery, and confidence beyond the reef of her small island, and her quest to save her village by doing what’s right. School-age Kids’ Craft Night, June 13, 6 to 7 pm, Southwest Branch. Is your school age child looking for a way to express their creativity? Take advantage of this free craft for ages 5-12, offered in the children’s area at the Southwest Branch. The kids’ craft does not require registration.

Petite Picassos art: Wednesday, June 14, 11 am, Southwest Branch. Process art activity for littles. Playing with messy materials promotes early learning. Apron supplied! Ages 5 and under. Free, no registration required.

Monthly Family Storytime, June 21, 6 to 7 pm, Watts-Midtown Branch. A special monthly storytime for families who can’t make our daytime events! Bring the family for stories, songs, and activities.Additional ongoing storytimes offered this June are as follows:

  • Tuesdays, 10:30 am at the Watts-Midtown Branch: June 6, 13, 20, 27
  • Wednesdays, 11 am at the Southwest Branch: June 7, 21, 28.
  • Fridays, 10:30 am at the Watts-Midtown Branch, June 9, 16, 23, 30.

The above events are all free and open to all.
