The Rock Island Public Library may be closed on Tuesday, July 4 for the holiday, but there’s plenty of summer programming filling up the rest of the week. The Library’s “Find Your Voice” Summer Reading Challenge and events continues through July 31 at all locations.
Public programs for the first week of July include:
- Toddler Tales storytime, 11 am, Wednesday, July 5, Rock Island Southwest Branch, 9010 Ridgewood Road. Free stories and activities for children ages 5 and under.
- Getting Started with Family Search, 11am, Thursday, July 6, Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street. Free “getting started” workshop for beginning genealogy. Registration required; sign up online or call 309-732-7341.
- Family Tie-Dye event, 3:30 to 5:30 pm, Thursday, July 6, Rock Island Watts-Midtown Branch, 2715 30th Street. Free drop-in tie-dye event outside on the Library’s back patio. Bring a t-shirt or something else to dye using library supplies. All ages, no registration needed.
- Toddler Tales storytime, 10:30am, Friday, July 7, RI Watts-Midtown Branch. Free stories and activities for children ages 5 and under.
- Playcrafters Preview of Little Women, 10:30 am, Saturday, July 8, RI Watts-Midtown Branch auditorium. See one or two scenes from the upcoming production, hear from cast and crew of the Playcrafters’ Barn Theatre production. All ages.

The Library is open Monday, July 3 during regular hours, closed on Tuesday, and reopens on Wednesday, also at regular hours. While buildings are closed, Rock Island Library cardholders can access a wide variety of online services, including eBooks, audiobooks, an online catalog, research databases, and streaming movie and music services.
