Parents, caregivers, and little ones ages 2 to 5 can play with art at a Saturday Hug-A-Book program for preschoolers that’s just “beachy.”

Get Creative with Art for Littles at August 10 Hug-A-Book Create program: Parents, caregivers, and little ones ages 2 to 5 can play with art at a Saturday Hug-A-Book program for preschoolers that’s just “beachy.”

The Hug-A-Book: Create program will be offered Saturday, August 10, from 10:30 am to noon at the Rock Island Public Library’s Downtown location Community Room, 401 19th Street.

Families with preschoolers can drop in to try ocean-themed “process art” projects at various art stations, pick up a free book to take home, and a toddler-sized art apron. The event is free and open to all.

Process art focuses on the activities around making art rather than the finished project. It supports preschool learning by developing fine motor skills, creativity, confidence, design-making, thinking skills, vocabulary, and self-expression. Because there’s no one right result, process art is open-ended exploration.

The ongoing Hug-A-Book early learning series is presented with support from the Merrill Harris Fund of the Rock Island Public Library Foundation.

For more information about other library services and upcoming events for a wide range of ages, visit the library’s website, call 309-732-READ, or follow the Rock Island Library Facebook and Instagram social media sites.
