Rock Island Public Library hours and events for the weeks of Christmas and New Year's Day.
Rock Island Public Libraries will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday, Dec. 25 for Christmas. Affected locations include the Rock Island Public Library (RIPL) Downtown headquarters, 401 19th Street; Southwest Branch, 9010 Ridgewood Road; and Watts-Midtown Branch, 2715 30th Street, as well as Library2Go bookmobile routes.
Teens and adults looking for something to do after Christmas can enjoy a free Movie Monday offering from 6 pm to 8 pm Dec. 30 at the Rock Island Watts-Midtown Branch, 2715 30th Street. The 1979 anime adventure is the only one of Hayao Miyazaki’s movies not produced by Studio Ghibli. It’s the story of a master thief who discovers the casino money he’s stolen is counterfeit. It’s rated PG, but contains some mild language and images of characters smoking. For more details about the title and content of this film, contact the library.
All Rock Island Public Library locations will also be closed Tuesday, Dec. 31 and Wednesday, Jan. 1 for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
Libraries resume normal operating hours on Thursday, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. For parents and caregivers looking for entertainment for their little ones, the library’s Winter Toddler Playgroup will be available on both Thursdays from 10 am to noon in the Downtown Library Children’s Room. The weekly event offers unstructured drop-in open playtime for children ages 5 and under with a caregiver or parent. It's a good opportunity for both little one and their adults to connect with others.
