1. Is the contractor registration fee pro-rated?

No. If you register at the end of the registration term the required fee will be the same as if you had registered in the beginning of the term.

2. Are there consequences of not obtaining the required Contractor Registration and permits?

Obtaining permits and being registered with the City of Rock Island as required is the responsibility of the contractor and failure to do so will result in legal action resulting in a maximum $500 per day penalty through the Administrative Hearing process also known as MUNICES.

3. Can I pull a roofing permit if I am registered as a General Contractor?

Only if you have submitted a copy of your State of Illinois Roofing License Certificate. The State Roofing License is required. If you would like to test for your State of Illinois Roofing License, please contact:

4. If a company has multiple divisions, does each division need to register separately?

Yes. If a company has multiple divisions, for example, plumbing, heating, and electrical, then registrations must be submitted separately and each trade permit must be applied for separately, (even if for the same project location).

5. Who is responsible for ensuring all subcontractors have the proper credentials?

The Permit Applicant has the responsibility of contracting with properly-credentialed subcontractors.

6. What is the difference between a License and a Registration?

A License shows that a person has met certain criteria, such as testing and experience in order to perform a trade. A License is sometimes required for Registration purposes.

A Registration is only the duty to register, providing identification information, and to keep within the required Ordinance requirements in order to perform work.
