- About the Department
The Rock Island Police Department, founded in 1854 is dedicated to safeguarding the residents, businesses and visitors of the City of Rock Island. We are committed to upholding the utmost standards of professionalism and integrity. Our agency consists of 81 sworn officers and 28 civilian staff members, organized into four divisions.
In 2015, city leaders installed the last beam in the 53,000 square foot, two-story building that serves as the police department. This modern facility is equipped with advanced technology, enables the department to enhance efficiency and improve services for the community. Along with numerous offices and meeting spaces, the building features a cutting edge 911 communication center, indoor parking for police vehicles, and a community room for engaging with the Rock Island community.
The Rock Island Police Department holds accreditation from the Illinois Law Enforcment Accreditation Program, first achieving this status in September 2013.
The Rock Island Police Department's core values include Integrity, accountability, respect, community partnership and dedication to public safety.
Annually, our agency handles approximately 40,000 calls for service to over 37,000 Rock Island residents within an area spanning approximately 16.8 square miles.
Each year, the Rock Island Police Department compiles an annual report summarizing the activities and accomplishments for the previous calendar year.
