Becoming a Landmark
A Rock Island Landmark is a property or structure designated by the Preservation Commission that is worthy of rehabilitation, restoration and preservation because of its historic and/or architectural significance to the City of Rock Island. An entire neighborhood can also be designated through a similar procedure and become known as a “Local Historic District.”
Designation
Designation of these properties is governed by the
Rock Island Preservation Ordinance and alterations are regulated through a
Certificate of Appropriateness.
