Contractor Registration
Required by City Ordinance
The City of Rock Island Inspection Division requires that contractors who are performing work that requires a building permit be properly registered before they can obtain a permit for the work. Registration requirements vary depending on the type and scope of work a contractor is doing.
All contractors may download the appropriate Contractor Registration form found on one of the pages listed below. This will enable the City of Rock Island to maintain your contact information as well as fulfilling a registration requirement.
Required by General, Mechanical, and Electrical contractors
- A $10,000.00 continuous license/permit bond on the city’s form. Bonds that are not continuous will not be accepted.
- Current Certificate of Liability Insurance to The City of Rock Island in the amount of $100,000.00 property damage & $300,000.00 personal injury per occurrence
- Proof of workers compensation insurance or proof that the contractor is an approved self-insurer of workers compensation. Can be provided as a certificate of insurance from the insurance provider, or certificate of insurance issued by the Illinois Workers Compensation Commission.
- Contractors that have no employees are not required to provide proof of workers compensation. A written statement confirming they have no employees will be required.
Separate Requirements
- General Contractor - general construction, roofing, siding, signs (non-electrical), demolition, swimming pools, basement waterproofing, etc.)
- A completed General Contractor Registration application form
- $55.00 annual fee
- A State of Illinois Roofing License is required to pull roofing permits, per 225 ILCS 335/ Illinois Roofing Industry Licensing Act (Public Act 90-55)
- Mechanical Contractor
- A completed HVAC/Mechanical Contractor Registration form
- $55.00 annual fee
- Applicants providing a license/registration from another Illinois municipality must also provide an affidavit verifying a minimum of 5 years of experience as a mechanical/HVAC contractor. Alternatively, applicants may provide a current copy of masters licensing, accompanied by proof of a passing grade.
- Electrical Contractor
- A completed Electrical Contractor Registration form.
- $27.50 fee (annual)
- Applicants providing a license/registration from another Illinois municipality must also provide an affidavit verifying a minimum of 5 years of experience as an electrical contractor. Alternatively, applicants may provide a current copy of masters licensing, accompanied by proof of a passing grade.
- Plumbing Contractor
- A completed Plumbing Contractor Registration form
- State of Illinois Plumbing License - 058 (copy)
- State of Illinois Plumbing Contractor Registration Certificate - 055 (copy)
