Sewer Lateral Lines Are Property of the Resident

Many sewer customers do not realize that they own the sewer lateral that connects their property to the City sewer system. If the sewer lateral fails, the property owner is required to repair or replace it. 

Repair Program Available

The City of Rock Island offers a Sewer Lateral Repair Program that will protect homeowners from the unexpected costs of a sewer lateral repair.

• The Sewer Lateral Repair Program is available to the owner or contract purchaser of residential or commercial property.
• The sewer lateral must be six inches or less in diameter and be in working order.
• Cost is $14 per month.
• Provides up to $20,000 for the repair or replacement of a failed sewer lateral.
• The program protects the property owner from the nuisance of arranging financing and hiring a plumbing contractor on short notice. In peak periods, it sometimes takes weeks to make arrangements for a plumbing repair.
