Hazardous Materials

Warning Labels

Household items with warning labels inform people to be careful of how the items are used. Hazardous items may be labeled "toxic," "acid," "poison," "flammable," or "caustic."

Proper Disposal

Household hazardous materials must be disposed of properly. They should never be poured down the drain, put in the trash, or dumped on the ground. When this happens, the materials mix with stormwater runoff and can contaminate local waterways.

Please fill out a Report a Problem online form to report an unlawful disposal of hazardous materials.

There is no charge for Rock Island County residents to dispose of household hazardous materials at the Waste Commission of Scott County’s Household Hazardous Material (HHM) Collection facility.  Appointments are no longer necessary.  For additional information, please call (563) 386-9575.
