Leaf Burn Ban

The City of Rock Island does not allow the burning of leaves and other yard waste; only recreational fires are allowable. On December 22, 2008, City Council voted to ban leaf burning within City limits. Individuals found in violation of this ordinance may be subject to fines that range from $40 to $500.

As part of the leaf burn ban, the City has expanded the Free Leaf Collection Program, which provides free leaf collection and bags in the spring and fall.

If you have an issue with a resident with the burning of leaves or rubbish, please call (309) 732-5911 or 911. To ensure the quickest and safest response, the dispatching agency will determine the closest response vehicle and dispatch them.
