Recreational Fires 

Recreational fires are outdoor fires where materials other than leaves and rubbish are the fuel being burned. Recreational fires are allowed by fire code on any day of the week between the hours listed below.

 

Outdoor fires are allowed within City limits under the following conditions:

  • Total fuel area should be 3 feet or less in diameter and 2 feet or less in height.
  • Recreational fires are permitted between the hours of 7:00 am to 11:00 pm.
  • Fires must be attended at all times with a means of extinguishment readily available.
  • All recreational fires shall be supervised by someone over the age of eighteen (18) until the fire is extinguished.
  • Fires must not be conducted within 25 feet of any structure.
  • Recreational Fires shall contain only split firewood or cut branches greater than a 1 inch in diameter.
  • Burning rubbish or leaves in a recreational fire is considered an ordinance violation and can result in a fine from $40 to $500.

The Fire Department shall reserve the right to order the extinguishment of any recreational fire, at any time, at the sole discretion of any fire officer or acting fire officer, when an unsafe condition or nuisance condition is identified by the Fire Department.  This order of extinguishment shall remain in effect for 24 hours after each occurrence.
