Registering the Rental Property
In order to obtain a Residential Rental License the property owner must do the following:
Step One
Complete and submit the Residential Rental License Application along with payment to the Inspection Division office.

Review the Rental License Information Packet which includes:
Step Three
Contact the Inspection Division to schedule an inspection of the rental unit(s). The owner or an authorized agent must be present at the scheduled inspection. Inspections are conducted Monday – Friday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Issuance of the Rental License
When all requirements have been met, the license will be issued. The license is valid from issuance until March 1.
- There is no pro-rated fee for registering during any later portion of a licensing year.
- Licenses are non-transferable and each new owner must register in their name.
- Prior to expiration of a license, the Inspection Division will supply the property owner with the necessary paperwork for renewal of the license.
*A late fee of $50 will be applied if a license is not renewed by March 1st annually.
If the property owner has never held a Residential Rental License in the City of Rock Island it is important to contact the Inspection Division.
