Meetings

The Planning & Zoning Commission generally meets on the first Monday of every month beginning at 5:30 pm. Meetings are generally held in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 1528 3rd Avenue. 

Commission Responsibilities

The Planning & Zoning Commission assists the City in the development and enforcement of land use regulations and the zoning code. Specifically, the Commission is responsible for the following activities. 

• Soliciting community input on the adoption and development of codes; 
• Advising the Mayor and City Council on land use regulations and matters to do with urban planning; 
• Assisting in preparing and recommending, including any changes, to City Council a Comprehensive Plan for future development of the City and using said plan to evaluate requests presented before the Commission; 
• Acting as a liaison between the City, agencies, associations, and residents relative to programs and activities;
• Making recommendations on the development of new programs and activities including those in pursuance of the Comprehensive Plan;
• Monitoring and evaluating programs and activities; and
• Acting as a quasi-adjudicative board of appeals as provided in the zoning code, sign ordinance, and other applicable City codes.
